Henna & Hibiscus Dyeing Workshop
Sunday 6:30pm - 4:30pm
Registration
About the Workshop
Henna and hibiscus have long been used as natural colorants across different cultures, valued for their rich tones and organic variation. When applied to paper, these dyes create expressive surfaces that respond uniquely to writing and drawing materials.
This workshop introduces participants to the preparation and use of henna and hibiscus dyes, situating the practice within its material and cultural context before moving into hands-on application.
The Learning Experience
The session begins with a guided introduction and live demonstration of how henna and hibiscus dyes are prepared, including discussion of their properties and behavior on paper. Participants will then make their own dyes using the ingredients provided, working at a measured pace that allows for experimentation and observation.
Emphasis is placed on understanding how natural dyes interact with paper surfaces and how they can be prepared for writing. No prior experience is required.
