Turmeric Dyeing Workshop
Wednesday 2:30 - 4:30
Registration
About the Workshop
Turmeric is a widely used botanical dye known for its vibrant yellow tones and its responsiveness to preparation methods and paper surfaces. Historically used for coloring, marking, and surface preparation, turmeric produces a range of hues depending on concentration and treatment.
This workshop introduces participants to the preparation and use of turmeric dye, focusing on how different processes can result in distinct color outcomes and how dyed paper can be prepared for writing.
The Learning Experience
The session begins with a guided introduction and live demonstration of turmeric dye preparation, explaining how variations in method can produce two different color results. Participants will then make their own dye using the ingredients provided, working at a measured pace that allows for observation and experimentation.
Emphasis is placed on understanding how botanical dyes interact with paper and how preparation affects color, tone, and absorption. No prior experience is required.
What You Will Make and Take Home
Each participant will prepare turmeric dye and apply it to paper in preparation for writing. Participants will take home their dyed paper and any remaining dye created during the workshop.
